Tweener’s Take
Alright, we were a bit smitten with the solid Vengeance we tested recently. Strong motion, oil handling, but smooth motion that doesn’t overreact but carries better than the hits looked. Some may not have been wowed but I have to tell you it’s stuck around in my arsenal and as it’s lane shined a bit, it really rolls heavy and with great sport shot control. It’s kind of like 900 Global’s Idol. Not as much downlane but works just as well. Now onto the Vengeance Returns and I couldn’t help but think of the Idol Pearl. That was one of my favorite big symmetric pearls. It was in the land of Marvel Pearl and those type of great pieces. More than one tester said they saw glimpses of the Marvel Pearl. Purpose, shape on lane, all kind of match. The Vengeance Returns gives you that reasonable length you expect from a stronger pearl while also giving you that strong continuous climbing move downlane. You can tell it has more motion than the Solid as you would expect, stores more energy and uses it for downlane motion so handles a little less oil of course. But it really didn’t matter where I stood, I could make it work. Even 4th arrow where I pretty much never go anymore. It just has the right match of motor to tires. I like what 900 global did with this particular chart to help bowlers understand what they are getting and the overlap.
Power Player’s Perspective
Sean is up next and really, it was just as lovely for him. This type of ball that has a higher strength pearl cover that’s sheened up with a big motor can be great match ups on house shots and even more so on HPL that already have a ton of midlane friction built into the lane beds. Just a nice and easy look. Hard to say a lot more than what I’ve said already as Sean’s look was just as good as mine with the same characteristics. You can see a couple 10 pins while the shape still looks good and this is the kind of thing you should be aware of during transition. He was able to make a small hand/line adjustment. You could also ball down to clean bit higher RG core to store even more energy.
Stroker’s Stance
Bryan is up next and it started out as a struggle. Bryan has struggled in the past with med defined balls which typically are shiny asyms. However, with my reference to the Marvel Pearl and Bryan having kept that in his bag for a long time, it was a bit of a surprise the Vengeance Returns didn’t give him near as good a look initially anyway. There is a pretty clear wall of friction 7 and out. Typically he can use the friction or the friction line and have a good look. In the friction, the ball really just was drained of all its energy. He was able to move further right and get to the pocket, but ultimately, he was able to move a bit left and straddle the friction line to see that long and strong arc type shape.
Final Thoughts
The Vengeance Returns is sort of like the Phaze II pearl in that they don’t fit square in any of my arsenal categories but you can 100% see it in your bag. It’s a great 1-2 to the Strong Control original Vengeance and it could straddle the line between mid control and mid defined. So if you are on heavier conditions, you can start with the solid and switch to this and if you are on medium house, this could easily be first out of the bag.
Thanks for watching.
